At Ananda Kalyani, sevā (selfless service) is not about “helping out.” It is about stepping into a living response to the crises of our time.
People come here to take responsibility — for the project, the land, the community, and for the kind of future they want to help build. Whether your skills lie in ecology, construction, education, communication, or collective life, your contribution becomes part of a real, evolving prototype for regenerative living.
Those who offer sevā are the lifeblood of the project.
Through shared work, cooperation, and daily practice, sevā becomes a space to grow roots, build skills, and reconnect action with values.
If you are ready to show up, learn by doing, and contribute to something larger than yourself, this is where your energy can matter.
Explore how you can join the sevā in Ananda Kalyani below.
What we offer
Being part of Ananda Kalyani means stepping into a living evolving community project where inner development, ecological responsibility, and service to the world are practiced together — every day.
You become part of a spiritually and ecologically grounded environment, with access to daily collective practices such as kiirtan and meditation, spaces for reflection and learning, and guidance from experienced practitioners supporting both your inner process and your practical engagement.
This is an ambitious, hands-on project rooted in real impact. Your presence contributes directly to regenerative work on the land and meaningful service within the surrounding community. We value initiative, shared learning, and the courage to take responsibility — and we welcome those who want to actively contribute to daily life and collective effort at Ananda Kalyani, rather than simply pass through.
Living conditions vary with the seasons and the needs of the project. Accommodation may be in community houses, shared dormitories, or tents — simple, functional, and connected to nature.
Throughout your stay, you are nourished with healthy, locally sourced, vegan sattvic food (a yogic diet without onion, garlic, or mushrooms), prepared daily by our kitchen team as a collective act of care.
A living environment for growth — explore inner development, self-reflection, and practical skills.
Challenge and engagement — honest dialogue with yourself and others is part of daily life.
Spiritual practice — deepen devotion and establish daily routines with optional meditation and kiirtan.
Collective life — weekly gathering dedicated to spiritual practice, team meetings, and shared responsibilities.
Diverse community — people from around the world, all committed to contributing to a larger purpose.
Events and learning — join gatherings and workshops free or at reduced cost.
Safe, mindful environment — kind and caring, smoke-free, alcohol-free, drug-free.
Simple living — dormitories or tents, according to the season and your choice.
Nature as your workspace — wake up to forests, fields, and river landscapes.
Nourishing food — healthy, vegan, sattvic meals prepared by our dedicated kitchen team.

“My first experience living in a community for two months was truly transformative. From the challenge of adapting to a sustainable lifestyle in nature to meeting new people, each with their own unique story, I learned that one can glean wisdom from any situation. It’s essential to approach such experiences with an open mind, free from bias, and a thirst for learning. Undoubtedly, you will come out feeling fulfilled and enriched by both the journey and the experience.”

“I am very thankful for what this community have given me. The spiritual wealth of Ananda Marga’s teaching is immense and powerful. It invites us to let shine our inner divinity, with lots of respect, empathy and softness in the process. I could connect deeper to myself and realign my path. It is a good place for meditating and the river and surrounding nature are beautiful. The satvic food is very tasty and people try to build a community relationship with each other. You surely will find a fair amount of social life as well as being alone in your own mental and spiritual healing. Baba nam Kevalam.”

“I ended up at Ananda Kalyani because I wanted to leave the city, live in nature and I already knew the community and some people here because we follow the same spiritual tradition. The experience itself was good. Got to spend a lot of time woriking with things I enjoy doing but didn’t have the chance to do in Lisbon, such as driving (Logistics), building and repairing things (Maintenance). Worked with very knowledgeable people from who I learnt and in general felt that I have a lot of space to experiment and grow freely without anybody restricting my work. It helped me inderstand that everybody is very different and we all have to work together.”

“I wanted to be an ESC volunteer to learn more about nature, how to work in Agriculture, connect with all the progress from growing food, take care of it, cooking it, serving it, till compost and all over again. Since I was volunteering at Agriculture team and Kitchen team, it was the perfect oportunity. Where my soul could understand better about transformation and natural cycles and learning how to do it inside too. I wanted to experiment a comunity living too, and the spiritual part was very important for me, since I started to learn how to root myself. It was intense. But all of it super needed for my grow and expansion. So if you are afraid (like I was, A LOT), you must come. “
